SP Chairman Akhilesh Yadav said on Wednesday that the socialists had launched an “August Kranti” on August 9 by teaching the BJP a lesson in Bihar and that the people of Uttar Pradesh would also reject it.

Yadav’s remarks came a day after the JD(U) severed ties with its BJP ally in Bihar and formed a ‘Mahagathbandhan’ government by joining forces with the RJD.

“Socialists have taught the BJP a lesson in Bihar. ‘August Kranti’ started on August 9,” the SP leader said in a party statement published here.

Speaking to the Centre’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, Yadav said, “For the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP will forget about the tricolor and switch to Hindu-Muslim. The BJP learned the divide and rule policy from the British. are well aware of these BJP conspiracies.”

“Like Bihar, people in Uttar Pradesh will also dismiss the BJP as ‘doodh ki makkhi’,” he said, using a colloquialism that refers to something unnecessary being thrown away.

The central government has launched the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign in which people are encouraged to hoist the tricolor in front of their homes to mark 75 years of Indian independence.

“The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the parent organization of the BJP, has never participated in the liberation movement or hoisted the national flag of India at its headquarters in Nagpur. It is just making the tricolor a political agenda these days. BJP doesn’t even know how to respect the tricolor,” Yadav said.

Since coming to power, the BJP has spared no effort to ruin the dreams of those who fought and sacrificed for an independent India. He neglected the poor and focused only on filling the treasuries of his capitalist friends, said the PS president.
