Finland needs 50,000 immigrants a year by 2050

Helsinki, November 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) Finland needs more than 50,000 immigrants a year for the next 28 years to fill vacancies caused by an aging population, according to the country’s tech industry.

Technology Finland said on Wednesday that industry alone, Finland’s biggest export sector, will need 130,000 new experts over the next 10 years, Xinhua news agency reports.

Only half of them will replace retirees, which means that there will be tens of thousands of vacancies in the export industry over the next ten years.

“Finland is aging and getting into debt, and our economic maintenance relationship is upside down,” said Jaakko Eskola, president of Technology Finland, an association of around 1,800 companies in the technology industry.

If Finland does not have enough people of working age, the welfare state will not be maintained, Eskola said.

Therefore, he added, the only option is to dramatically increase immigration.

Finland must therefore build a successful long-term immigration policy.

However, immigration alone will not solve all of Finland’s challenges, Eskola said.

It is essential to raise the level of skills of young people, particularly in the fields of information and communication technologies.
